3D VISLAB PROJECT AND INDUSTRY TALKS
17th feb - 21st
It has been an exceedingly busy and exciting week.
On Tuesday, I gave my first ever talk. Although about 12 people showed up to it, forcing myself to get up on a platform really made me go through what I know and reinforce my learning. I welcomed the experience, I want to keep myself on my toes for the presnetation coming up in April.
Here is some prep work I did over the weekend, and some photos from the talk itself. I look forward to the next one!

TALKS FROM GERARD DUNLEAVY AND TAUNT
I decided to sit in on some of the talks that where going on for some of the final years.
First up where Tom and Fiona from Taunt. A very informative and honest view about the realities of owning your own company.
They showcased a lot of their work, but one of the key elements I took out from what they said was to be flexible, and develop yourself in a way in which you can work with anything.
They really stressed the fiscal responsibility side. Money and economics is undoubtedly the bottom line in how companies work, but more so is the relationship cultured with clients, your team, and the work/personal life balance.
I have been toying with the idea of setting up my own company for a while. Even thinking about it too long makes me exited and nervous at the same time.
All the way back in the first Term of second year, we had a talk from Deepa Mann-Kler. She mentioned the idea of starting your own company for placement.
This idea is growing on me day by day. There is a lot of stuff going on at the moment and it seems that Belfast may be the place to be, despite many of my personal friends ambitions to move away.

I would love to get down and have a talk with the guys in Taunt about this some more.
GERARD DUNLEAVY'S TALK
Next up, is the ever famous Gerard Dunleavy.
Hugely impressed by the career that this man has had.
He has had experience with every major visual effects company, ranging from Double Negative, MPC and ILM.
Really solid advice about company culture, ranging from who you should be talking to, etiquette in the work-floor about how to talk to higher ups and bosses, what mistakes to make and what mistakes not to make.

Fantastic advice about freelancing as well. Also got the chance to arrange a personal meeting with him about some critique about this ongoing project

Getting a contact from the current Masters lecturer, put me in contact with a guy based in Dundee.

With a couple of emails back and fourth, today he got back to me with a more consistent brief.

They want an animated video sequence that visually tells the story of a historical event based on 3D data and any other sources of information that are available.
The sequence may be used as a part of a Museum exhibition, public information website or a tourism promotion.

They would want it 1-3 minutes in length.

They have given 3 options on what to do.

1.) The Scuttling of SMS markgraf

2.) The Flight of Sirius
